Understanding and implementing the NDA paradigm can be a steep learning curve. Most days I find myself fielding questions from colleagues doing their best to serve the needs of their Autistic and ADHD clients but feeling confused or stuck.
This group consultation program was developed to support, guide and encourage my fellow clinicians in the practice of NDA therapy.
The group is targeted at psychologists who are:
Working with adults
Seeking support and guidance on how to apply the NDA paradigm in the clinical setting
Have done some training in NDA therapy
Note the group is focused on the application of NDA principles, rather than teaching about NDA practice. An introductory level of knowledge is assumed, and recommendations for training can be provided.
All groups are on Tuesday 3-5pm Perth time (GMT+8). The next planned dates are: 10 June, 24 June, 15 July, 29 July 2025
Care is taken to ensure the learning environment is comfortable, accepting, inclusive, and supportive. In this space we can:
Explore, understand and apply the principles of NDA therapy
Ask questions like “what do I do when…” or “what happens if…” or "why does my client..."
Ask questions about the lived experience of Autism and ADHD
Reflect on your own practice
Seek support and encouragement in your work
Learn from your colleagues
Participants will sign an agreement when enrolling that outlines expectations about:
Courtesy and respect for all participants
Commitment to the principles of NDA therapy, including the use of language. Perfection is not expected, but openness to learn is.
Ethical guidelines including professional practice and confidentiality for both clients and fellow group participants.
Maximum 4 participants
Supportive learning space for case discussion, where you can ask questions or request specific topics (e.g. double empathy)
Session agenda will be determined with input from participants.
You will receive an email invitation in the week previous to request anything you wish to discuss. Here is a typical format we will use as a guide:
Participant introduction and check in (20 mins)
Session agenda agreed upon (5 mins)
Time will be divided according to urgency, interest, and size of topic, with preference to pre-submitted requests (60-75 mins).
Self-reflection (10 mins).
Final questions and comments (5-10 mins)
Finish 10 minutes before the hour (allows a margin of error to sign off no later than the agreed-upon time)
In order to ensure the group is viable, it will only proceed if 4 places are filled. Starting date may be postponed if insufficient numbers.
Email admin@ndhaven.com.au and state "I would like to enrol for Neurodiversity Affirming Therapy supervision group on [specify date/s]"
