Take time out from daily life and relax in a tranquil bush setting hidden away in suburban Perth.
Unwind in a friendly, supportive and non-judgemental environment where you can be free to focus on yourself
Press pause on your role as helper and carer, and spend some time focusing on you and your needs. This retreat will use the principles of both Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Schema Therapy to:
· Create a space where you can rest, rejuvenate, and rediscover parts of yourself that are forgotten amidst the busyness of life
· Sit on the other side of the therapy exchange as you practice experiential strategies to foster self-care
· Reorient your clinical practice to better align with your values
· Non-judgementally attune to contextual factors that impede your capacity to practice self-care
· Pay attention to your schemas and the impact they have on your self-care and clinical practice
· Tune in to your Vulnerable Child Mode and allow your Happy Child to play!
· Build on your Healthy Adult Mode to assist in taking good care of yourself, independent of how busy or stressed you are
After the retreat it is intended that you will return to your usual life with:
· A sense of calm and renewed energy
· Connection to your values and a sense of purpose for the future
· An appreciation for the many ways we can use experiential strategies to create meaningful change
· A psychologically flexible plan on how to take good care of yourself in general and in your clinical work
· An understanding of how ACT and Schema Therapy are applied to self-care.

It is very likely that you will gain some fresh ideas on how to help your clients, particularly those dealing with stress, burnout, and loss of direction in life. It is also expected that relaxing and focusing on self-care will have flow-on effects to other areas of your life such as family and work life. But these are not the primary goals.
Please choose this retreat for YOU
YOU are important and deserve some time to focus on your own needs.
Who should attend?
This retreat is open to all psychologists but was particularly developed with psychologists in therapeutic roles in mind. Whether you are experienced with ACT and Schema Therapy or a complete novice, the content is designed to be experiential and accessible to all levels of experience.
Whether you are feeling tired, stressed and burnt out, or wish to take time our for yourself, or are interested in the application of Schema Therapy and ACT to self-care, or want to build on your existing repertoire of self-care strategies, there will be something worthwhile in this retreat for you.
To cultivate an environment of peace and friendly support for each other, this retreat is limited to a maximum of 20 participants.
Venue and Format
Piney Lakes is an Environmental Education Centre in suburban Perth, hidden away between Leach Hwy and Murdoch Dve in Winthrop. It has a relaxed meeting space with plenty of room to spread out into small groups both inside and outside. Surrounded by bushland and committed to promoting environmental sustainability, Piney Lakes provides an opportunity to step away from your daily life, without traveling far from home.
This is not a lecture-style retreat. Our time together will be structured so as to meet your personal and learning needs and will incorporate more experiential strategies than knowledge sharing. We will move around at regular intervals to encourage physical as well as psychological flexibility. There will be group discussions, connection with nature, pairs exercises and many other activities, all in an atmosphere of support and encouragement for each other. After registration you will receive a questionnaire about your reasons for attendance, so as to better tailor the content to your needs.
A note about the program and timing
The timetable will be 9am - 5pm on both Friday and Saturday. This will include some space for socialising and self-reflection.
A relaxed social dinner on Saturday evening may be arranged depending on interest.
Spending 2 days focusing on oneself is an opportunity many of us do not often get. Whilst the retreat program is intended to be rejuvenating, you may find you feel low on energy in the days following attendance. The timetable deliberately concludes on Saturday so as to create space for your own, independent self-care day before returning to the working week. It is recommended that you intentionally minimise any commitments (social, work, family, domestic) on Friday and Saturday evening, as well as on Sunday. Suggestions on how to use your Sunday will be provided during the course of the program. This will not be possible or desired by all attendees and is a suggestion only.
Caring for ourselves and caring for the planet
This event is committed to caring for our planet and will promote sustainability of the earth as well as of ourselves. Single use materials such as plastics will be minimised wherever possible.
