If this is a new discovery for you, you may have a range of different feelings about the news. There may be grief, surprise, anger, fear, confusion, peace, relief, to name just a few. You may feel lost as to where to start in understanding what being Autistic means for you and your life.
It is called Embracing Your Identity because understanding your Autistic neurotype entails more than head-knowledge. It is about accepting yourself and your neurotype as whole, worthy, and worthwhile, and not in need of correction.
The aim of this group is to guide you through:
Understanding what Autism does, and does not mean for you
Unlearning many of the unhelpful and inaccurate things our society teaches about Autism
Learning how to work with, rather than against your neurotype
All while benefiting from shared wisdom – a chance to learn from other’s experiences, to share knowledge, and feel less alone.

It is not a therapy group.
I recognise the Autistic neurotype as a valid and important contribution to diversity amongst humans.
I do not try to sugarcoat struggle or sing about “sunshine and rainbows”.
I follow the Social Model of Disability and recognise that Autistic individuals are not inherently disabled, but may be disabled by the mismatch between their neuro-differences and the social environment

You are encouraged to participate in ways that feel comfortable for you. Various supports and accommodations are available in the office space, such as seating options, low odour, fidgets, and no expectation for "small talk". You are most welcome to ask for additional supports, and these will be accommodated wherever possible.
I f you are not sure about this stance, please contact me to check the group will be suitable to your learning needs.
